​Class Descriptions, Information & Dress Code

Below is a listing of our CORE classes.  Electives are offered in addition to a core class.  Elective classes are Team & Tumble (ages CM/PB/IT - BTJ III), Hip Hop (ages 6 & up), Ballet & Pointe (BTJ IV & up), Team (BTJ IV & up).  If you would like more info on any of these classes please contact a JCMDS instructor.

Core Classes

​Creative Movement - CM

Creative Movement is a 30-minute rhythm and coordination class designed for boys and girls ages 3-5, to learn beginning ballet concepts.  While exploring personal creativity, dancers will incorporate motor development, music, and basic skills needed for future classroom experiences. 

Ages:  3 years old - Roughly 6 years old

The registration fee is a uniform fee that includes: pink split soled ballet shoes for girls and black ballet shoes for boys.  $24.00

Girls required class wear: Plain pink or black leotard with white, pink, black or tan tights.  A short plain pink or black skirt may be worn as well - please no long attached skirt or tutus.

Girls may purchase on their own: plain black spandex shorts and or plain black ballet skirt.

Boys required class wear: Plain black compression t-shirt or sleeveless top, & black shorts.

Creative Movement/Pre Ballet/Intro to Tap - CM/PB/IT

This is a class for students in Kindergarten through roughly 2nd grade.  There are two levels (I & II). In these classes, students will be introduced to ballet as well as tap.

The registration fee for girls is a uniform fee that includes: pink split soled ballet shoes and tan conversion tights. $32.00

The registration fee for boys is a uniform fee that includes: black split soled ballet shoes. $24.00, $8.00 credit to tuition.

Girls required class wear: Plain pink or black leotard with tan tights.  A short plain pink or black skirt may be worn as well - please no long attached skirt or tutus.  Girls may purchase on their own: plain black spandex shorts and or plain black ballet skirt. 

Girls will also purchase tan buckle taps & boys will purchase black taps from the studio.

Boys required class wear: Plain black compression t-shirt or sleeveless top, & black shorts. Same as Creative Movement.

Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo Classes - BTJ

These classes will have a combination of ballet, tap and jazz instruction, (Levels I-V). 

The registration fee is a uniform fee that includes: 
Girls will choose a Black leotard with JCMDS logo or black flowy tank with sparkle or glitter JCMDS logo, Tan conversion tights, and pink split soled ballet shoes. $62.00
Boys: black split soled ballet shoes $24.00, $30.00 $8.00 credit to tuition.
(No street clothing is to be worn during class instruction)
 
Level I-III Girls will also purchase tan buckle taps & boys will purchase black taps from the studio.
Level IV-V Girls will also purchase black taps & tan jazz shoes & boys will purchase black taps and jazz from the studio.

A black glitter JCMDS leotard or a black glitter JCMDS flowy tank top, tan conversion tights, and Tan Capezio Freeform shoes. $73.00 ($7.00 additional for Leotard-charged at time of order)

Elite level ADV BTJ:  will purchase black taps from the studio.
 
Optional to purchase on your own or from the studio:  plain black spandex dance shorts and or a plain black ballet skirt.

Elective Classes

Below is a list of the elective classes we offer at JCMDS. These classes may be taken in ADDITION to your core class.

Leaps/Turns/Jumps plus Strength & Flexibility

Advanced level:  Ballet Tap Jazz III and up are eligible, please ask for correct placement.

This class is designed for students interested in dance conditioning and increasing flexibility in preparation for more advanced dance skills such as leaps turns and jumps. 

​We will drill the skill components of leap turns and jumps to give dancers additional instructor directed advice and repetition to advance these skills. This class would be helpful to dancers interested in dance and cheer squads as well as gymnastics and Pointe. 

Dress Code:  Regular core class attire

Acro for Dance

This thirty-minute or 45-minute class is an instruction in acrobatic movement. Through physical activity and positive coaching, young dancers study targeted skills that allow them to later learn advanced tumbling and acrobatic stunts for performance choreography. 

Dress Code:  Regular core class attire, black spandex shorts, ballet shoes.

Advanced Kick: No classes 2020-2021

Advanced levels: BTJ V & up are eligible by audition.  This is a very rigorous class of conditioning for flexibility & endurance,  along with, a precise technique including timing, head snaps and more! This is a technique class only.

Hip Hop

Students in this class will learn many fun combinations and learn a new fun way of dancing.

Ages:  6 & up, please email Julie for availability and further details.

Dress Code: Students may wear a fitted tank or t-shirt & shorts or jazz pants.  No Street clothes. Students may also wear jazz shoes in this class.

Intro to Team/Cheer

In this class, students will be introduced to cheer & dance team concepts.  We will also tumble using mats and 2 levels of balance beams.

Ages:  CM/PB/IT - BTJ III students.

Dress Code:  Fitted Tank or T-Shirt, Shorts - these may be worn over regular dance attire if your core class is on the same day.  Students will wear ballet shoes.

Team

This class is designed for students who will soon be on or are currently on cheer and dance teams.  We will learn cheer and dance team skills, as well as, formation awareness, levels, contagions and voice skills that are required to be part of such a team.

Ages:  BTJ III & up

Dress Code:  Fitted tank or t-shirt, spandex shorts or jazz pants and jazz shoes.

Classical Ballet & Pointe

The class will focus on all things ballet and work toward going up en pointe.  There will be outside dance work required in this class.

Students in this class must also bring with them each week:  A notebook, a pen or pencil, a theraband (medium resistance) or a 3 pack of therabands and a golf ball. 

Ages:  This is for the dedicated dancer BTJ IV level & higher.
​
Strict Dress Code: Split soled ballet shoes. Students who have been tested and invited by their teacher to go up en-pointe will wear ballet shoes and their pointe shoes in this class.

Select Pointe

Dancers will be invited, after audition, to the select pointe class.

The class focus will be working to advance turn out muscles, balance, and endurance en pointe. We will also work to expand the dancer’s knowledge of french ballet language.
